Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of freshly brewed espresso (or strong coffee)
  • 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream (or gelato)
  • 1/4 cup of chocolate shavings (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of crushed nuts (optional, such as hazelnuts or almonds)
  • 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur (optional, for an adult twist)
  • Whipped cream (for garnish, optional)
  • Cocoa powder or cinnamon (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Measure out 2 cups of water and heat it to just below boiling (around 200°F or 93°C).
  2. Grind about 1/2 cup of coffee beans to a fine consistency.
  3. Brew your espresso according to your machine’s instructions. If using a French press, add the ground coffee to the press, pour in the hot water, and steep for about 4 minutes before pressing down the plunger.
  4. Pour the freshly brewed espresso into a heatproof container and set it aside to cool slightly.
  5. Let the ice cream sit at room temperature for about 5-10 minutes to soften.
  6. Scoop out 4 generous scoops of vanilla ice cream and place them in serving bowls or glasses.
  7. Pour about 1/2 cup of the hot espresso over each scoop of ice cream.
  8. If using coffee liqueur, drizzle about 1/2 tablespoon over each serving.
  9. Sprinkle chocolate shavings or crushed nuts on top.
  10. Add a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
  11. Dust with cocoa powder or cinnamon for a finishing touch.
  12. Serve immediately while the espresso is hot and the ice cream is cold.
  13. Provide a spoon and a straw for each guest to mix the melted ice cream with the espresso.
  14. Encourage everyone to enjoy it right away for the best experience.
