Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
- 8 ounces bacon (preferably thick-cut)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
- Fresh lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- Wash the asparagus under cold running water to remove any dirt or debris.
- Trim the woody ends of the asparagus by bending each spear until it snaps or cutting off 1-2 inches from the bottom.
- Lay the trimmed asparagus on a clean kitchen towel or paper towel to dry.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Cut each strip of bacon in half for easier wrapping.
- (Optional) Partially cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes for extra crispiness.
- Take one piece of asparagus and lay it flat. Wrap a half strip of bacon around the asparagus, overlapping slightly, covering from the bottom to about two-thirds up.
- Secure the end of the bacon with a toothpick if necessary.
- Repeat the wrapping process for all asparagus spears.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, black pepper, and sea salt.
- Toss the wrapped asparagus in the seasoning mixture until evenly coated.
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Place a wire rack on top if available.
- Arrange the bacon-wrapped asparagus on the wire rack or directly on the baking sheet, spaced evenly.
- (Optional) Drizzle balsamic vinegar over the top for added flavor.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, checking for crispiness after 20 minutes.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- Transfer to a serving platter, removing any toothpicks.
- Serve warm, garnished with fresh lemon wedges for a refreshing touch.
Notes
- For added heat, sprinkle red pepper flakes before baking.
- For a cheesy variation, add grated Parmesan cheese during the last 5 minutes of baking.
- Experiment with different types of bacon for varied flavors.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
