Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large croissants
  • 8 slices of deli ham
  • 8 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the croissants in half lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through.
  3. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the inside of each croissant half.
  4. Place two slices of ham on the bottom half of each croissant.
  5. Add two slices of Swiss cheese on top of the ham.
  6. Close the croissant by folding the top half over the cheese and press down gently.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  8. Brush the melted butter mixture generously over the top of each croissant.
  9. In another small bowl, beat the egg to create an egg wash and brush it over the top of each croissant.
  10. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the assembled croissants on it, leaving space between each.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Monitor closely during the last few minutes to prevent over-browning; cover loosely with aluminum foil if necessary.
  13. Let the croissants cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet.
  14. If using, sprinkle fresh parsley over the croissants for garnish.
  15. Serve warm, perfect for brunch, lunch, or as a snack!

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider adding a slice of tomato or spinach inside the croissant before baking.
  • You can assemble the croissants ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before baking. Add extra baking time if they are cold.
  • Experiment with different cheeses or meats for a unique twist.
