1 medium yellow onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water, plus more as needed
1 teaspoon granulated sugar (optional)

Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add cabbage, apple, vinegar, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Stir to combine.
- Cover and bake for 2 hours, or until cabbage is tender.
Notes
- Serve hot as a side dish.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For a vegetarian option, use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
