Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1 box (5.1 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box (12 oz) vanilla wafers
  • Optional: additional banana slices and crushed vanilla wafers for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk. Whisk until smooth and thickened, about 2 minutes.
  2. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 5-10 minutes to set.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, pour in the heavy whipping cream.
  4. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  5. Beat on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form, about 3-5 minutes. Be careful not to overbeat.
  6. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chilled pudding mixture until fully combined.
  7. Peel and slice the bananas into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  8. Set aside a handful of vanilla wafers for garnish.
  9. In a large trifle dish or 9×13 inch baking dish, layer vanilla wafers at the bottom.
  10. Add a layer of sliced bananas over the wafers.
  11. Pour half of the pudding mixture over the bananas, spreading evenly.
  12. Repeat the layering with another layer of vanilla wafers, banana slices, and the remaining pudding mixture.
  13. Finish with a final layer of vanilla wafers on top.
  14. Cover the assembled pudding with plastic wrap or a lid.
  15. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow flavors to meld and wafers to soften.
  16. Remove from the refrigerator and peel off the plastic wrap.
  17. Scoop out portions, ensuring to include layers in each serving.
  18. Garnish with additional banana slices and crushed vanilla wafers if desired.
  19. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For best results, consume within 3-4 days. The bananas may brown slightly, but the flavor remains delicious.
  • To prevent browning, toss banana slices in a little lemon juice before layering.
