Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons dried butterfly pea flowers
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1–2 teaspoons honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
- Ice cubes (for iced tea, optional)
- Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Start by boiling 2 cups of water in a kettle or pot until it reaches a rolling boil.
- While the water is boiling, measure out 2 tablespoons of dried butterfly pea flowers.
- Once the water is boiling, remove it from heat and add the dried butterfly pea flowers to the water in a teapot or heatproof pitcher.
- Cover and let the flowers steep for 10-15 minutes, depending on how intense you want the color and flavor.
- After steeping, strain the tea into a cup or another container to remove the flowers, resulting in a deep blue tea.
- If desired, add honey or your preferred sweetener, starting with 1 teaspoon and adjusting to taste. Stir until dissolved.
- For a refreshing twist, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, which will change the color from blue to purple.
- Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy hot.
- Let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for about 30 minutes. Serve over ice cubes in a glass.
- Optionally, garnish your iced tea with fresh mint leaves for added aroma and color.
Notes
- Experiment with flavored variations by adding fruits like berries or citrus slices.
