Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound of chicken tenders
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup of breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/2 cup of buttermilk
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Hot sauce (for serving)
- Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the chicken tenders under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- In a medium bowl, pour in the buttermilk and add the chicken tenders, ensuring they are fully submerged. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Set up your breading station: In one shallow dish, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. In a second dish, whisk the eggs. In a third dish, add the breadcrumbs.
- After marinating, remove each chicken tender from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge in the flour mixture, dip in the eggs, and roll in the breadcrumbs.
- In a large skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the breaded chicken tenders in batches for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C).
- Remove the chicken fries with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve the chicken fries on a platter, garnished with fresh parsley if desired, and with hot sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes
- For extra spice, add chopped jalapeños to the buttermilk marinade or mix hot sauce into the egg wash.
- For a healthier option, bake the chicken fries at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Leftover chicken fries can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
