Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons matcha green tea powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (like macadamia or walnuts, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. If using, gently fold in the white chocolate chips and chopped nuts with a spatula.
  7. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  9. Scoop out portions of the dough and roll them into balls, placing them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Optionally, press down on each cookie ball to flatten slightly.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  12. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  13. Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to three months.

Notes

  • For a more intense matcha flavor, you can increase the amount of matcha powder slightly.
  • Feel free to customize the mix-ins by adding your favorite nuts or chocolate chips.
  • Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier mixing.
