Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes
- 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Olive oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and ground pork.
- Add the breadcrumbs to the meat mixture.
- Sprinkle in the grated Parmesan cheese.
- Chop the fresh parsley and add it to the bowl.
- Add the minced garlic.
- Crack the large egg into the bowl.
- Season the mixture with salt, black pepper, dried oregano, and dried basil.
- Using your hands, mix everything together until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Take a small handful of the meat mixture (about 2 tablespoons) and flatten it in the palm of your hand.
- Place a cube of mozzarella cheese in the center of the flattened meat mixture.
- Carefully fold the meat around the cheese, sealing it completely.
- Roll the stuffed meatball gently between your hands to form a nice round shape. Repeat until all the meat mixture is used up, yielding about 12-15 meatballs.
- In a large skillet, heat a couple of tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully add the meatballs to the skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- Cook the meatballs for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure they brown evenly on all sides.
- Once browned, transfer the meatballs to a plate and set aside.
- In the same skillet, pour in the marinara sauce.
- Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Carefully add the browned meatballs back into the skillet, ensuring they are submerged in the sauce.
- Cover and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
Notes
- For a healthier option, you can bake the meatballs at 400°F (200°C) for about 20-25 minutes instead of frying.
- Feel free to customize the herbs and spices according to your taste preferences.
- Serve with spaghetti, on a sub roll, or on their own with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
