Description

This homemade orange squash drink is a refreshing blend of fresh orange juice, sugar, and a hint of lemon, perfect for hot days or gatherings. Serve it chilled over ice for a revitalizing treat that captures the vibrant flavors of citrus.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large oranges
  • 1 cup of sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice (optional)
  • Ice cubes (for serving)
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or pesticides.
  2. Cut each orange in half using a sharp knife.
  3. Extract the juice from each half using a citrus juicer or a fork, being careful of the seeds.
  4. Pour the fresh orange juice into a measuring cup, aiming for about 2 cups of juice.
  5. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of water to create a simple syrup.
  6. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar completely dissolves (about 2-3 minutes).
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  8. Add the freshly squeezed orange juice to the cooled syrup. If desired, add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice for extra tang.
  9. Stir the mixture well to combine all ingredients.
  10. In a large pitcher, pour in the orange squash base.
  11. Add the remaining 3 cups of water to the pitcher, adjusting for desired strength.
  12. Stir well to combine and taste, adjusting sweetness if necessary.
  13. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  14. Stir the chilled drink before serving.
  15. Fill a glass with 3-4 ice cubes.
  16. Pour the chilled orange squash drink over the ice.
  17. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
  18. Serve immediately and enjoy!
