Pear Vanilla Water: A Refreshing & Healthy Hydration Guide

  • Total Time: 195 minutes
  • Yield: 8 cups 1x

Description

A refreshing and subtly sweet Pear Vanilla Water, infused with the delicate flavors of ripe pears and aromatic vanilla. Perfect for a light and hydrating beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe pears (Bartlett or Anjou), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and seeds scraped
  • 8 cups filtered water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, helps prevent browning)
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Optional garnishes: fresh mint sprigs, pear slices, vanilla bean pod

Instructions

  1. Combine the Ingredients: In a large pot, combine the diced pears, vanilla bean seeds and pod, water, sugar, lemon juice (if using), and salt. Make sure the vanilla seeds are well dispersed throughout the water.
  2. Simmer the Mixture: Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for at least 1 hour, or up to 2 hours. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Keep an eye on the water level; if it seems to be reducing too quickly, add a little more water.
  3. Cool the Infusion: After simmering, remove the pot from the heat and let the infusion cool completely. You can speed up the cooling process by placing the pot in an ice bath, but be careful not to let any water get into the infusion.
  4. Strain the Infusion: Once the infusion is completely cool, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth (if you have it) into a large pitcher or container. Discard the pear pulp and vanilla bean pod.
  5. Taste and Adjust: Taste the pear vanilla water and adjust the sweetness to your liking. If it’s not sweet enough, add more sugar, a tablespoon at a time, stirring until dissolved.
  6. Add More Vanilla (Optional): If you want a stronger vanilla flavor, you can add a few drops of pure vanilla extract. Start with just a few drops and taste as you go.
  7. Chill Thoroughly: Cover the pitcher or container and refrigerate the pear vanilla water for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  8. Serve Over Ice: When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled pear vanilla water over the ice.
  9. Garnish (Optional): Garnish with fresh mint sprigs, pear slices, or a vanilla bean pod for a beautiful presentation.
  10. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Bartlett and Anjou pears are recommended, but other varieties can be used. Adjust sugar accordingly.
  • Vanilla extract (1-2 tsp) can be substituted for the vanilla bean, added after cooling.
  • Honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar can be used as sugar alternatives.
  • For a sparkling version, top with sparkling water or club soda.
  • Experiment with herbs like rosemary, thyme, or mint during simmering.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamom for a warm flavor.
  • Adjust the pear to water ratio based on your preference.
  • Toss diced pears with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
