  • Author: Maria
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cocktail 1x

Description

The Sake Grapefruit Fizz is a refreshing cocktail that blends the unique taste of sake with the bright zest of fresh grapefruit juice. Ideal for warm evenings or celebrations, this bubbly drink is easy to prepare and perfect for sipping with friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz sake (preferably Junmai or Ginjo)
  • 1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 3 oz club soda or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes
  • Grapefruit slices, for garnish
  • Fresh mint leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut a ripe grapefruit in half and use a citrus juicer or reamer to extract about 1 oz of fresh grapefruit juice.
  2. Combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan (e.g., 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water). Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Fill your serving glass with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
  4. You’ll need a cocktail shaker, a jigger for measuring, and a strainer. A mason jar with a lid can substitute for a cocktail shaker.
  5. In the cocktail shaker, add 2 oz of sake, 1 oz of fresh grapefruit juice, and 1 oz of simple syrup. Adjust the syrup to taste if you prefer a sweeter cocktail.
  6. Fill the shaker with ice cubes, cover, and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients.
  7. Remove the ice water from your chilled glass and strain the cocktail mixture into the glass. Use a fine mesh strainer if you want to catch any pulp.
  8. Gently pour 3 oz of club soda or sparkling water over the cocktail for a refreshing fizz. Adjust the amount based on your preference for fizziness.
  9. With a bar spoon or straw, gently stir the cocktail to combine the soda with the sake mixture without losing the bubbles.
  10. Slice a fresh grapefruit into thin wedges and pick a few mint leaves if desired.
  11. Place a grapefruit slice on the rim or float it on top of the drink. Slap the mint leaves between your hands to release their oils and add them to the drink.
  12. Give the cocktail one last gentle stir to ensure all flavors are combined and the drink is chilled.
  13. Serve your Sake Grapefruit Fizz immediately for the best experience.

Notes

  • Choosing the Right Sake: Experiment with different types of sake, such as Junmai for a rich flavor or Ginjo for a lighter, fragrant option.
  • Adjusting Sweetness: Taste the grapefruit juice before adding simple syrup, and adjust according to your sweetness preference.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Consider adding a splash of elderflower liqueur or a dash of bitters for added complexity.
  • Make It a Pitcher: Scale up the recipe for gatherings by multiplying the ingredients accordingly.
