Ingredients
Scale
- 1 batch of homemade or store-bought buttermilk biscuits (about 8–10 biscuits)
- 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 cup fresh mozzarella balls, halved or quartered
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional, for drizzling)
Instructions
- If using homemade biscuits, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare the biscuit dough according to your recipe or package instructions. For store-bought biscuits, skip this step.
- Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. If using store-bought, follow package instructions.
- Let the biscuits cool for a few minutes, then cut them into quarters.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine halved cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and chopped basil. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Toss gently to coat.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs until well beaten. Add whole milk, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk until smooth.
- In a 9×13 inch baking dish, layer the biscuit pieces evenly across the bottom.
- Sprinkle half of the tomato and mozzarella mixture over the biscuits.
- Pour half of the egg mixture over the biscuit and filling layer, ensuring it seeps into the biscuits.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining biscuit pieces, followed by the rest of the tomato and mozzarella mixture, and finally pour the remaining egg mixture over the top.
- Gently press down on the strata with a spatula to ensure all biscuits are submerged in the egg mixture.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the egg is set in the center.
- Let the strata cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar if desired.
- Slice into squares or rectangles and serve warm.
