* 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
* 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
* 1/4 teaspoon salt

**For the cinnamon-sugar coating:**

* 1/4 cup granulated sugar
* 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, and the eggs until smooth.
  3. Beat in the vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  6. Shape dough into small teddy bears.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and the cinnamon.
  8. Roll the teddy bears in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  9. Place on ungreased baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.
  11. Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Recipe can easily be doubled.
  • For a slightly softer cookie, bake for 8 minutes.
